INDIANA JONES' latest adventure is already well on its way to scoring a global box office opening record - the fourth film in the iconic movie franchise made an estimated $6.7 million (GBP3.35 million) from its first screenings.
Midnight screenings in Europe and America on Tuesday (20May08) and Wednesday (21May08) gave the film a big boost just days after Indiana Jones + The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull wowed fans at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
In France, Daily Variety reports 240,000 film fans saw the movie at 706 screenings during the film's first day anywhere in the world - that's the best bow of the year for a Hollywood film.
Estimates suggest the opening day in America could bring in more than $30 million (GBP15 million) for the film.
The fourth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise is on course to unseat Johnny Depp's pirate captain and claim the Memorial Day weekend record.
Depp's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End grossed $139.7 million (GBP69.85 million) for the four-day holiday when it was released in 2007.
